iGEM (international Genetically Engineered Machines competition) Team-wettbewerb

iGEM ist der bedeutendste Studierendenwettbewerb im Bereich der Synthetischen Biologie, mit Teams von führenden Universitäten der ganzen Welt. Die Synthetische Biologie versucht, lebende Systeme (v.a. Mikroorganismen) mit Hilfe von gentechnischen Methoden und aus den Ingenieurswissenschaften abgeleiteten Vorgehensweisen zu nützlichen Zwecken zu modifizieren. Die Teams entwickeln eine eigene Projektidee, welche sie dann im gleichen Jahr experimentell im Labor umsetzen. Ihre Idee stellen die Teams auf der World Championship, welche Anfang November in USA am Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge (USA) ausgetragen wird, vor. Dort wird die beste Idee, deren Umsetzung und Darstellung ermittelt und prämiert.

Team 2012

Beim Entscheid in den USA belegte 2012 das LMU iGEM-Team „BEADZILLUS“ Platz vier unter 190 Teams aus der ganzen Welt und gewann zudem zwei Spezialpreise für die beste online-Dokumentation ihrer Arbeit (Best Wiki Award) sowie für die beste neue Anwendung der Synthetischen Biologie (Best New Application Award). Das iGEM-Team wurde außerdem 2012 mit dem LMU-weiten Förderpreis für exzellente Studierende ausgezeichnet. Webseite Team 2012 http://2012.igem.org/Team:LMU-Munich/Team

Team 2014

At the iGEM Finals in Boston the LMU team was awarded two prizes and one honorable mention

The LMU-Munich iGEM Team participated with its project “BaKillus” successfully in this year’s iGEM competition. At the finals in Boston, the team of 14 highly motivated students won a gold medal and received honorable mention for their contribution in a study performed in 45 laboratories all over the world. The team was extremely happy to also receive the special award for the best online-documentation of their work (Best Wiki Award). For the LMU iGEM team, the Giant Jamboree in Boston with over 2000 participants was the absolute highlight of the iGEM competition. They can now look back at an educational and busy year full of excitement, creativity and great experiences.
